Endoscopy and Laparoscopy at Bay Park Veterinarian Clinic

When you visit your trusted vet in San Diego, CA, our team will provide you and your pet with outstanding care and treatment for his or her needs. We offer the most advanced solutions whenever possible. These tools, including endoscopy and laparoscopy, can help your pet to get the care he or she needs without the intense surgery that could itself be life threatening. When you visit Bay Park Veterinarian Clinic, we may recommend the use of these techniques to help your pet recover.

What Is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that requires very small incisions. We use a specially designed computer system to complete the procedure. This procedure is used on humans as well. Once we make several small incisions in the impacted area, we use robotics guided by our surgeon to complete the procedure. With keyhole-sized incisions, there is far less risk of infection and the recovery time tends to be much less. We can provide your pet with a very precise level of care in a less painful and safer procedure.

What Is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is another type of minimally invasive procedure. In fact, it is considered a nonsurgical procedure. We use this procedure to examine the digestive tract. To perform it, your pet is sedated. We then will place a small tube into their nose or throat. At the end of this tube is a camera that provides the surgeon with a very good view of what’s happening within the digestive system. In addition, the endoscope will have small tools on the very end of it. These can allow for the removal of tissue samples or even the removal of polyps in some cases. The procedure is very safe.

What Are the Benefits of Laparoscopy and Endoscopy?

Whenever it is possible, we recommend the use of these procedures. They offer a number of key benefits including:

  • Less bleeding
  • Faster recovery
  • Far less pain
  • Smaller incisions
  • Less scarring and less scar tissue development
  • No long hospital stay required in some cases
  • More precision

We’ll talk to you about the treatment options available to your pet. We highly recommend these procedures when they are effective solutions.

When Could Laparoscopy and Endoscopy Help Your Pet?

Each pet’s needs are very different. Our treatment options may vary depending on the condition of your pet. We may recommend these procedures in situations such as:

  • Diagnostics (we can use tissue samples to make a diagnosis, for example, of a condition)
  • Exploration of the abdomen in a safe, less invasive manner
  • Ear cleaning and care including using video otoscopy for deep ear cleaning
  • Spays
  • Rhinoscopy, the examination using endoscopy techniques for the nose and for biopsies in this area
  • Gastric torsion (twisted stomach) treatment in larger animals
